The Many Benefits Of Learning To Paint
Learning to see the world differently!
So much of our modern world is “pre-packaged” for us by advertisers, movie producers, designers, etc. We are trained to “see” that final package without having to “think” about its component parts. When painting, the artist comes into intimate contact with every detail of the painting: the form, the variation in color, mood, temperature and personality. You learn to see as an infant first sees the world.
Balance
Learning to see provides balance and understanding of our surroundings. Our daily world becomes our friend as we come into communion and contact with its elements.
Expression
Painting provides a wonderful means of expression. For example, one might think that a “tree is a tree.” But, your tree will be “YOUR” tree. It will reflect your individualism; your personal mental and emotional image. You may paint from pictures or from nature, but what you paint is a product of who you are and your own life experience. It is uniquely satisfying to find your “voice” through painting.
Satisfaction and perseverance
Every painting is a puzzle that you will follow through to its natural completion. Great satisfaction and increasing confidence is achieved by finishing what you’ve started
Your mind at work!
Like tending to a small child, every detail is to be lovingly undertaken. You will utilize areas of the brain that, perhaps, have not been challenged repeatedly in the past. You will be fascinated with the solutions that you are able to conceive and will become more motivated to develop those powers further.
A Painted Diary
Your completed paintings become a visual diary. You will be able to return to them over the years and instantly be brought into touch with the experience and time of their creation. They become touchstones of your life and a record of your development.
Therapy!
For many, this single reason alone is enough to paint on a regular basis. You will totally relax! Whether your normal life style is characterized by enormous stress and activity or a sense of purposelessness or boredom, or anywhere in between, you will find painting provides a lovely feeling of relaxation and satisfaction with a renewed sense of purpose. You'll wonder where the time went….hours can pass seemingly in minutes. It is somewhat akin to reading a great book….you are carried away into another place. Except in this case, you are the author, the creator of the new world into which you’ve entered.
New Friends!
Painting can provide for a whole new circle of friends and acquaintances. You’ll now have something in common with a new group of aspiring or accomplished artists. Perhaps you’ll paint with others and share the experience together. Or, you’ll join an art association; enter your paintings in the local exhibitions etc. You’ll have a whole new and very personal perspective to communicate with other inspired painters.
Gifts
Did we mention gifts?! Think of all the times you may have searched your mind to come up with just the right gift for a special someone. A gift of a painting is so personal and shows how much you care by giving a present that was so lovingly created “just for them.”
Financial return?
As your artwork evolves, you will begin to be asked by others what price you would ask for your works. Of course, this is very much an individual decision as to whether you will sell your paintings or not. But, should you decide at some point that you are willing to sell, you may very well offset the cost of your classes and materials by an occasional sale. Or, you might just become that artist who is ultimately able to sell repeatedly and become a successful gallery artist!
Legacy
Years from now, your paintings will provide a legacy for your loved ones. Every painting will reflect your life, your values and a dedication to the expression of beauty and philosophy that is uniquely yours.
Never painted...or, "it's been so long since I drew or painted?"
It’s been heard a thousand times: “But, I’ve never painted before!” It is truly amazing how quickly every student becomes an artist. There’s something about those who decide to begin that prequalifies them to be a successful art student. We can tell you that this is true from long experience in teaching beginning students….if you find yourself strongly curious….you will do well.
It's never too late, nor too early to begin!!
Painted before, but not in a long time?
If you have painted before, then you’re well aware of the all of these points. Perhaps your “normal” life has taken you away from painting and chances are you’ve been looking for the opportunity to allow yourself to get going again!
